Obituary of Dorothy Ann Helbig

Dorothy Ann Helbig, 76, of Belford, NJ passed away on February 18, 2016 in Morristown Memorial Hospital. Dorothy was affectionately known as Nana to her family and Dot to her friends. Dot was born on October 8, 1939 in West Keansburg, NJ to the late John and Margaret Fetherston. Spending most of her life in NJ, after raising her family in Oxford and Washington, Dot moved to Sebastian Fla where she enjoyed her later years. Dot was a caring loving soul who will be remembered as a great mother and grandmother, loving sister, and good friend that could always be counted on. Dot was also known for being charitable and active in her community and worked at the ARC and Hunterdon State School. Dot was one of the very first home sponsors for the Hunterdon State School where she welcomed people into her home as a stepping stone on their re-entrance to society. Nana is survived by a son Dirk Helbig of Easton, PA; three daughters Rose Connell and her husband Stephen of Morristown, NJ, Kim Opdyke ofSt. Petersburg, FL, and K.C. Shadis and her husband Steven of Sebastian, FL; two devoted loving sisters Mary Hohenstein and Helen Yahara. Nana is also survived by her loving grandchildren Robbie, Melissa, Olivia, Cynthia, Derek, Emely, Neil, and Patrick as well as three great grandchildren. Nana also leaves behind many neices and nephews who she adored. Nana is reunited with with her brother Jay, sister Carol and Aunt Sadie who preceeded her in death. DeVoe Funeral Services has been entrusted with the arrangments. Visitation will be held at DeVoe Funeral Service 136 West Washington Ave, Washington, NJ 07882 on February 27, 2016 from 11am until 1pm with services to follow.
