Obituary of Carl Higgins

Carl R Higgins, 79, of Oxford, NJ died Sunday April 1, 2012 at St. Lukes Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg NJ. Carl was born on January 2, 1933 in Washington, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Ruth (nee Kries) Higgins. Carl served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Oxford VFW Post 10259 and the Washington VFW Post 6701. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 0131 of Belvidere, NJ, a member of the American Legion Post 0528 of White Township, NJ, A lifetime member of the Oxford Fire Company, Oxford, NJ, and a former member of the Oxford Emergency Squad, he was a member of the George Washington Council of the Boy Scouts and won the Merit award in 1971. Carl loved hunting, fishing, and karaoke. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the treasurer of the Warren County War Memorial. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Mildred Ammerman Higgins in 1999. He is survived by two daughters, Vicki and husband Alonzo Widener of Oxford, NJ and Cindy and husband Harry Fox of Oxford, NJ, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is predeceased by a daughter, Carla Miley in 2009, four brothers, Charles Higgins, Randall Higgins, Edgar Bush, and Roy Bush, and four sisters, Melva Burek, Welda Bailey, Mildred Bailey, and Charlotte Pursel. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the DeVoe Funeral Service, Inc.,136 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral Service with Military Honors at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home on Thursday, April 5, 2012. Interment to follow in the Montana Cemetery, White Township, NJ.
