Obituary of Elizabeth Silker

Elizabeth "Betty" Margaret Sliker, 88, of Hampton, New Jersey passed away on Monday, December 24, 2012 at Hunterdon Medical Center. Betty was born on September 14, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd W. and Blanche ( nee Riddle) Smith of Lebanon Township, NJ. She was married to Andrew Johnson Sliker for 43 years when he passed on February 22, 1990. She was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church and was presently attending the Samuel McCrea Memorial United Methodist Church in Port Murray, NJ. She was superintendent and Sunday School teacher at the Lutheran Church at the Lutheran Church in Glen Gardner, NJ and the Hampton United Methodist Church. She was an assistant Girt Scout Leader in Hampton, NJ. She worked at the Underwear Factory and Tongsul in Washington, NJ. Also worked at Mt. Kipp/ Hagedorn in Glen Gardner, NJ. She also worked at the Hunterdon Developmental Ceneter in Clinton, NJ. She retired from Hagedorn in 1987. She was a member of the Bunnvale YMCA Senior Center in Bunnvale, NJ. She was the Treasurer of the Spruce Run Cemetery in Lebanon Township, NJ. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting afghans. She is survived by six daughters; Grace Westbrook and husband Henry of Galway, NY, Linda Jacobus and husband Wyatt of Hampton, NJ, Elizabeth "Betty" Sliker and husband Russell of Phillipsurg, NJ, Muriel Brendel and late husband LeRoy of Coco Beach, FL, Andrea Dilts and husband David of Hampton, NJ,and Carole Ann Newell and late husband Scott of Wilkes Barre, PA, sixteen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren, a sister, Joan Carling of Hampton, NJ, a brother, Delbert L. W. Smith of Lebanon Township, NJ, and sister-in-law; Lori Smith of Washington, NJ. She is predeceased by two brothers; Robert C. Smith of Hampton, NJ and John Smith of Washington, NJ. A visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the DeVoe Funeral Service, Inc., 136 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the McCrea United Memorial Methodist Church, Main Street, Port Murray, NJ 07865. An interment will follow the service in Spruce Run Cemetery, Lebanon Township, NJ.
