Obituary of Herbert Wilson Schalk

Herbert W. Schalk, 90, of Washington Township, NJ passed away at Hunterdon Medical Center on August 29, 2016. Herbert was born on December 21, 1925 to the late Charles and Edith (Hendershot) Schalk in Scranton, PA. Serving in the US Navy, Herbert was discharged in 1946. He then became a machine operator for Ethyl Visqueen in Flemington, NJ. In 1961, he married Frances Colaluce and remained happily married to her for fifty four years. Herbert was an avid writer including both fiction and political editorials. He loved to read and loved sports including his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish. But Herbert’s true passion was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Herbert is survived by his beloved wife; two sons Charles Schalk of Flemington, NJ, and John Schick of Nashville, TN; a daughter Sheree Haney of Las Vegas, NV, grandchildren Emily Schalk, Colette Schalk, Elizabeth Schalk, Andrew Haney, Zachary Haney, Justin Schick, Joshua Schick, Jarred Schick; great grandchildren Caroline Schick and Gavin Schick. Two sisters preceeded him in death; June Johnson and Cleo Sinkbeil. A viewing will be held on Thursday September 1, 2016 from 6-8 pm at the DeVoe Funeral Service 136 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday September 2, 2016 at 11:00 am also at the funeral home. The DeVoe Funeral Service has been entrusted with arrangements.
