Obituary of Miriam Allen

Miriam W. Allen, 93, of Washington, New Jersey died Monday September 3, 2012 at the home of her niece in Washington, New Jersey. Miriam was born in Rahway, NJ on February 17, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Walter Rulon and Anna Wilson Smith. Miriam graduated from Washington High School in 1938. She then graduated in 1941 from the Easton Hospital School of Nursing, and attended Unniversity of Penn in 1942. She was the Supervisor of Obsentrics at Memorial Hospital in Wilmington Delaware and later at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ. She was also the first Public Health Nurse in Washington / Warren County, NJ. Miriam was a member of the Eastern Star, Office of Aging, and a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Washington, NJ. Surviving our her niece, Elaine Farley Alpaugh of Washington, NJ and nephew, Jeffrey L Farley of Washington, NJ, whom were her caregivers for many years. She is also survived by her last surviving sister Valerie Smith Maginnes of Fleetwood Pa, granddaughters; Kimberly Netwton , Jacqueline Newton West and several grand children. She is predeceased by son, Thomas Newton, daughter, Virginia Newton Jones, and husband William Allen. sisters, Margaret Smith Claus, Janet Smith Farley, Mildred Smith Warman. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the DeVoe Funeral Service, Inc., 136 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012 at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 127 Broad Street, Washington, NJ 07882. An interment will follow at Washington Cemetery, Washington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Washington Fire Department, 100 Belvidere Ave., Washington, NJ 07882 or Washington Emergency Squad, P.O.
