Obituary of Maria Gamez

Maria C. Gamez, 73, of Belvidere, NJ died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Warren Haven Nursing Home, Oxford, NJ. Born: February 4, 1937 in Perico Matanza, Cuba a daughter of the late Manuel and the late Carmen Farinas Diaz. Personal: She was predeceased by her first husband, Guillermo Pockels in 1969, and is survived by her second husband, Arsenio Gamez of Belvidere. Maria earned a Masters in Education from Kean University and was employed by Elizabeth Board of Education as a Special Education Teacher. Maria enjoyed spending time with her family. Memberships: She was a member of the New Jersey Education Association as well as the National Education Association. Survivors: In addition to her husband, Arsenio Gamez, she is survived by a son, William Pockels of Elizabeth, NJ; a daughter, Vivian Ventriglia and her husband Ralph of Washington, NJ; a brother, Manue Diaz and his wife Mercedes of FL; two grandsons, Eric and Anthony Ventriglia of Washington. Services: Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeVoe Funeral Service Inc., 136 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Washington, NJ immediately followed by burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Washington on Friday. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
