Obituary of Nancy Jane DeVries
Nancy “Nance” DeVries, 75, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2022, at St. Lukes Hospital Warren. Nancy was born June 12th, 1947, in Teaneck, New Jersey to the late Christopher and Audrey Klumpp. Nancy grew up in Dumont, New Jersey and graduated from Dumont High School in 1965. Nancy was a loving mother to her three children Audrey, Jonathan, and the late William DeVries. Nancy raised her family in Mahwah and eventually moved to Hope where they settled down permanently.
Nancy was known for many things, but first and foremost she will be remembered as a loving Mother and Nana. Nancy was very proud of the time she spent as a member of the Imperial Knights Drum Corps from 1961-1964 and would make sure that you knew that she marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with them. Nancy was also a lover of the outdoors and sports. She loved to fish and shoot archery, and shared those skills, every summer for over 30 years, as an Activities Director at Otter Lake Camp Resort in Marshall’s Creek, Pennsylvania. She loved to share her passion for the outdoors with anyone she could and loved to teach others how to improve their technique a little bit each day. Nancy was a straight shooter and had no qualms about sharing her feelings, but tough love was still love. And every day you best believe you could find Nancy cozied up in her Goofy sweatshirt, sipping on her hot tea with two sugars.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Audrey DeVries and her partner Mark Kimble, son Jonathan DeVries, granddaughter Kristen Bergenback and her partner Kyle Storm, granddaughter Lillian DeVries, granddaughter Lailah DeVries, great-grandson Clayton Cavazza, and by her sister Merle Brunck.
Nancy is predeceased by her parents Christopher and Audrey Klumpp, her sister Carole Anderson, and her son William “Billy” DeVries. Nancy’s family would also like to share their gratitude to the staff of St. Luke’s Warren Campus especially to all the outstanding staff that took care of her during her stay in the Intensive Care Unit.
