Dear Ellen and family.
I am very sad that Dave has left us so soon and I wish to express my deepest sympathy.
Dave and I were faculty in the same department at Rutgers University from around 1977 to 1989, when the department split into two units: Recreation Services at Rutgers College and Exercise Science on the Douglass College Campus. For a couple of years we shared an office that was devided by a partial wall partition.
I remember Dave as a brilliant, kind, and helpful human being with great ideas and a sense of humor. I was around when he first had the idea for creating the Rutgers Youth Sports Research Council. Because of the common office area, I was able to overhear many fascinating conversations. I was a witness to its development in the beginning.
I am someone who has the ability to concentrate and ignore things that others would find distracting. But, my powers were not strong enough to "tune out" Dave. I found it absolutely impossible to ignore him any time he was talking to someone else on his side of the wall! His conversations were fascinating.
Dave was very helpful and supportive while I was working on my doctoral degree. To help me prepare for the Graduate Record Exam (GED), he gave me a new word-a-day to learn. Sure enough, many of the words he gave me were on the exam. I passed and was admitted to the Doctoral program in the Graduate School of Education.
One night, I was in the office preparing a document for my dissertation proposal hearing the next day. This is back when we were using desktop personal computers, 5 1/4" floppy discs, and had to know DOS commands. My computer skills were minimal. I did something stupid and lost the document I was preparing to print out. I was alone in the building. Miraculously, I heard footsteps coming down the hallway. It was Dave!! He had come to the office to retrieve something he had forgotten.
He generously gave me his time and expertise to help me retrieve the document and get it printed.
Throughout the whole process of designing my research project and writing the dissertation Dave would share his viewpoint, wisdom, and insight when I asked for his advise and opinion. I greatly appreciate his generosity because I know that he was very busy.
I am sorry that he is now gone, so soon after retirement. His departure is a great loss. My memories of him are a great gift.
With deepest sympathy,
Carmen Valverde

Mourning and it hurts
My friend, mentor, and brother just died.
Dr. Dave Feigley was a faithful, trusted, confidential “brother” friend,
In the past 45 years
We shared hotel rooms and stages, gyms and classrooms, camps and courts. Weddings and banquets.
For a season, Dave’s family; Kathy, Kyle and Brian granted me a “Home away from home”. They embraced me with a refuge that was “clean enough to be healthy and cluttered enough to be comfortable”. Even the dog was pleasant accept the time he bit me, it was my fault.
Very very sad
Two years ago I visited Dave and Ellen at their “Farm”. Ellen was selfless to value the “men time “ interrupting” only to serve a perfect country lunch.
“Five hours seemed like fifty minutes “ is part of what he signed on the jacket of his textbook as a gift to me.
He was reminded of calling me about his laptop crashing and losing his only draft of the textbook. He didn’t know I had backed up his hard drive only a few months before. Within 10 minutes I arrived at his house and delivered a box of 3.5 floppy disks.
He gave me a free copy of the text.
It's surreal
We talked on-the phone a couple weeks ago. Dave was going to drive to Philly
He had passions he wanted to share with me and others. He was eager to encourage me with future professional endeavors and mentor me in relationships from a place of lessons learned from errors, forgiveness and striving to do “the next right thing”.
There were conversations to be continued and possibly projects to collaborate.
Dave had a private humility for the Divine. He respected those who pursued a yielded, honest relationship with the Higher Power without assessing others. Journey.
We both wanted to have a DAY together and agreed to lock in a date
The last words he said on the phone were ….
"The sooner the better "
To my great loss our friendship did not have one more exchange of; ideas, passions, gratitude, plans respect and affection!
Dave was an elite coach in both gymnastics and diving.
A very intense competitor.
He did a philosophical change (mellow)
He published articles, did presentations at state regional and National conferences and started several organizations
He loved to teach the real successes of coaching.
Creative, brilliant, witty and very engaging.
professor Rutgers university
Founder NJ youth sports Council
Chairperson of Rutgers university sports science program and international sport business program.
His positive contributions to youth sports is immeasurable and will continue for years to come.
I miss my friend already!

My condolences to all David's family and loved ones. I met Dave more than 10 years ago. His wit and wisdom along with his pragmatic approach to life and it's ups and downs instilled a hope that I may also " get through it all " and come out the other side stronger and more resilient. Dave once remarked that his life flourished and I believe that it did. I am a better person for having known Dave for the short time I had. I will think of him when I see personal improvement and remember him fondly and I can only hope that my life, because of Dave's influence, will also flourish.
